Sullivan Community Development (formerly the Sullivan Chamber & Economic Development) serves as the lead organization driving economic growth, business support, and community advancement in Sullivan, Illinois. The organization works to attract new investment, support existing businesses, and strengthen infrastructure to position Sullivan for long-term sustainability. Through strategic partnerships with local government, regional agencies, and private stakeholders, Sullivan Community Development pursues grants, site readiness initiatives, workforce development efforts, and quality-of-life projects. The organization also champions tourism, housing development, and downtown revitalization to enhance Sullivan’s vibrancy and competitiveness. By aligning projects with the city’s comprehensive vision, Sullivan Community Development helps create opportunity, stability, and momentum for residents, entrepreneurs, and future generations.

History

Sullivan Illinois Community Development traces its roots back over 80 years, when the Sullivan Chamber of Commerce was established to support and connect local businesses in our community.

In 2016, Sullivan took a bold step — merging the Chamber with the Sullivan Area Economic Development Corporation to create one of the first organizations in Illinois to unite Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development, and Tourism under a single roof. The result was Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development (SCED), a unified organization built to do more for Sullivan with fewer silos and greater impact.

The problem we set out to solve was simple: Sullivan needed one strong, connected voice — for businesses, for residents, for visitors, and for the investors and developers who could help our community grow.

It's working. In the years since, Sullivan has welcomed millions of dollars in active projects, major business expansions, and over 100 new housing units in just six years — a goal we hit four years ahead of schedule.

Today, as we rebrand to Sullivan Illinois Community Development, we're doubling down on that mission. Same commitment to our community. Stronger than ever. Built for what's next.
